Bowen is usually performed lying down on a massage table but can be done seated depending upon the comfort of the client, gentle but deliberate and precise movements with the practitioners fingers, thumbs and sometimes elbows (for stronger muscles like the hamstrings) are made over specific areas of soft tissue, there are short essential pauses throughout the treatment allowing the central nervous system time to integrate the inputs placed upon the body via the practitioner, during these pauses clients often feel sensations of tingling, heat, dull ache, itch or energy movement etc, this is the body resetting itself, a deep relaxation often occurs and its common for clients to fall asleep, Bowen can be performed through light clothing if preferred, there are no oils used.
